The New Dormitory
St. Joseph School’s previous dormitory was a twenty minute walk from the classrooms, was over crowded and unsanitary. It lacked toilets and showers.
Construction of a new dormitory was started in the winter of 2006 and work was compeled the fall of 2008. A dedication and blessing of the new dormitory took place this past fall. The dormitory is adjacent to the School and provides a campus setting with sanitary living conditions and a much healthier living environment.
With the completed of the dormitory is only the first phase of the school’s transformation. Toward this end the name of the School has been changed from the St. Joseph’s Vocational High School for Girls to St. Joseph’s Comprehensive High School for Young Women. This change reflects the focus on helping students enter careers and leadership roles in Cameroon that can help transform the country.

Leadership
The fall of 2009 a Leadership Skills program was introduced to the students of St. Joseph’s. The theme of we “Learn today and we Lead Tomorrow” is integrated throughout St. Joseph’s curriculum.
The Leadership program asks the students to look inward – to assess their talents and skills. Students are asked to begin to build a profile of what they see in a strong leader.
Students are asked to look at the characteristics and responsibilities of Leaders. What will your country need from its future leaders?
What will communities, families, business, school, hospitals, and other organizations in Cameroon need from leaders?Through the Leadership Development Program, girls will have contact with local mentors; will learn strategies for communicating effectively, negotiation conflict, setting goals, working in groups, and identifying and pursuing resources for personal and community growth projects.
